| Ruth is a member of the Executive Board of the Macondo Foundation, which supports the Macondo Workshop, an association of writers who gather yearly in San Antonio, Texas to share their creativity and learn about the needs and struggles of each other's communities. She is part of the collective of "Macarturos," Latina/Latino MacArthur Fellows who have come together to inspire each other and engage in open dialogues in Latino cities around the country. Ruth is featured at various venues during the "Latino Genius: Locos, Dreams and Visionaries" event in San Antonio Texas, October 4-7, 2007.
